Overstrand Municipality has expanded its online Job Application Portal to make it easier for residents to apply for a wider range of municipal employment opportunities.
From 1 July 2026, the portal will offer a single place where residents can apply for permanent vacancies, fixed-term positions, short- and medium-term Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) opportunities, and short-term seasonal vacancies as they become available.
The new platform also replaces the previous ‘Job Seekers Database’.
What this means for Jobseekers
Jobseekers (candidates) who were previously registered on the Municipality’s Job Seekers Database are encouraged to create a new profile on the Job Application Portal, where they can capture their personal information, qualifications, work history and supporting documents in one place, making it easier to apply for future employment opportunities.
The Job Application Portal is fully optimised for all devices, allowing residents to search and apply for opportunities using a computer, tablet or cellphone.
Job seekers who do not have access to a computer, tablet, cellphone, or the internet, can visit any Overstrand public libraries. Support is also available from the Municipality’s Socio-Economic Services offices in Magnolia Street, Hermanus.
The Municipality’s Human Resources Department will conduct registration outreaches in communities across the Overstrand to assist residents with registering on the portal. A schedule of outreach dates and venues will be published as soon as it becomes available.
Candidates who were previously registered on the Job Seekers Database are encouraged to re-register on the new Job Application Portal before 30 September 2026. After this date, the existing Job Seekers Database will no longer be used.
The improvements were made possible through grant funding from the Western Cape Provincial Government’s Department of Local Government.
MMC for Corporate Services, Alderman Arnie Africa, said the Municipality aims to assist as many existing job seekers as possible to register on the new system. “Our target is to reach at least 50% of our existing database and get them re-registered before the September deadline. This new system will make it easier for residents to access employment opportunities and for the Municipality to manage recruitment in a fair, transparent and efficient manner”, he added.
